Are Christians better than everyone else?
Or do we just give people that impression?
Once we have received Christ in our lives we want to let everyone know what a wonderful, uplifting experience it is,
and how much they are missing by not receiving him also, We must spread the word!
This can give many the false impression that we now think we are better than non believers and they must accept Christ in order to rise up to our level. People get turned off by this, and nothing could be further from the truth.
At a young age (21, which is young to me I am now 79) I received Christ at a Billy Graham Crusade in Denver and immediately ran around to all that would listen talking about how wonderful my life was now that all my sin was gone and I would now walk with Jesus in a perfect new life. This completely turned off all my friends and they began to refused to talk to me about religion.
They saw the hypocrisy in my words I was still the same person I had always been. They couldn’t see that my soul had been brought to life and at that time I didn’t see it either, I didn’t even know what that meant.

I learned that accepting Christ as my savior did not give me instant holiness but it did give me a spiritual awakening.
When I accepted Christ he forgave my sins and planted a seed in my soul now it was up to me to make it grow.
So my initial question; are Christians better than everyone else?
The answer is no, and we shouldn’t give people the impression that we are. It turns people off who need to be turned on to the reality of Jesus Christ.
As Christians how do we lead people to Christ without coming off as superior or condescending. In future posts I would like to discuss ideas on how to do this and welcome any input from readers on ideas you might have on this topic.
In the book of Corinthians chapter 5 verse 17 it says Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation the old has passed away; behold the new has come.
Back when I was 21 and accepted Christ as my personal savior I didn’t realize how new I was to the born again Christian world. I had been to church, I had knowledge of the Bible, but I wasn’t prepared to witness, there was not this light shinning before me So I became discouraged and went back to my normal life style. I knew my soul was saved but I didn’t spend time learning about God and his son.
As a result I spent the next several years doing all the things that as a child of God I shouldn’t do.
I was sexually permissive I drank alcohol, I did drugs and used profanity. My Mother put my life in perspective at one point by asking me “are you always going to be just a good time Charley?”
As I look back now that’s exactly what I was.
What was amazing is that even though I had totally lost my way, Jesus was always with me watching over me. I had no idea at the time but as I look back I can clearly see the many times he saved me from self destruction.
My question to this day is what purpose has he been saving me for.
Before I get any further down the road of what God’s Plan is, I guess I should introduce myself
My name is Howard Hicks, nickname (Howey or Deke) the Deke is an abbreviation of my middle name, DeCresse, which is a french name taken from one of my ancestors, anyhow you can use either name if and when we communicate.
I am 78 years old I’m retired and have been a full time RV’er since 2004
I put a Picture of my Rig so you can see our home, I also inserted a picture of me and my wife Cyndy and a picture of our dog Tilly.
I look forward to sharing my life past, present and future while we travel the US enjoying the beauty that GOD provides each day.
Now that you know who I am, lets get back to discussing GOD’S plan.
I returned to seeking GOD in a serious way when I retired in 2004. That’s when Cyndy and I sold our homes in Henderson, NV and started traveling full time.
The beauty of GOD’S world started me thinking about my relationship to him.
It was as if GOD was saying to me; here I am let me show you what I have done with the world that surrounds you. I started having conversations daily with the LORD who so many years ago had accepted me into his world and given me salvation. It may sound crazy but I began to realize that I was traveling as a visitor in his world not mine and I needed him to show me the way to conduct myself .
I needed to talk with him daily to get his advise and council.
It became more and more important to have these daily conversations and to thank him daily for taking care of me and my family.
I have started to feel immersed in his love , he is like a treasured friend that I need to be with and speak to daily.
It’s been a few days since my last post, Cyndy and I have been traveling from Reno NV to Weed, CA. North of Redding at the base of Mt Shasta.
Looking at the Mountain each morning reminds me of the power and majesty of GOD and how each day he is with us even when we don’t notice he is with us rock solid and immovable. I am here with Cyndy and our dog Tilly at Michaels (Cyndy’s oldest son) hou.se the motor home is setup in his driveway and we will here till mid October when we will head back to our lot in Yuma a the Kofa koop RV Park. We are looking forward to camping trips and fishing and enjoying the splendor of what GOD has created in northern CA.
I will be posting our adventures during our stay here. Stay Tuned!
